What a car battery really costs in Dubai

Two quotes for the same car can differ a lot, and it is rarely the battery itself. What you are actually paying for and how to compare two quotes fairly.

On this page

The same car, the same battery type, two different numbers on the phone. It happens every week in Dubai, and the gap usually comes from what each quote includes and what each one quietly leaves out.

What you are actually paying for

A car battery price is six things stacked together:

  • The unit itself: its capacity (Ah), its cold-cranking rating (CCA) and its type: flooded, EFB or AGM.
  • The brand tier: a premium badge on the same specification costs more, and does not make the car start better.
  • The warranty term: a longer term is part of what you are buying, and it is priced in.
  • Fitting: ask whether the vehicle needs the new battery registered with its charging system; if it does, that should be a visible line on the quote.
  • Getting it to you: delivery and call-out, whether that is shown as a line or folded into one number.
  • VAT, and removal of the old battery: both should be visible, not discovered later.

When a quote is one round number with no lines, you cannot tell which of the six you are paying for and which you are not getting.

Why two quotes for the same car differ

The cheapest unit that physically fits is not the specified unit. A flooded battery will drop into the tray of a start-stop car and start it. It will also fail early, because the car’s charging strategy is built around a battery that can take repeated cycling. Same car, different battery, different price, and one of them is wrong.

Batteries age on the shelf. Every battery carries a manufacturing date. One that has been sitting in a hot store for a year starts its life already behind, and self-discharge continues while it waits. A date code check costs nothing and explains some of the gap.

Registration is a job, not a formality — when the car needs it. On some modern cars the charging system has to be told a new battery has been fitted. Ask whether yours is one of them; not every vehicle needs it. If it does, the quote should say who will do it.

Mobile and workshop carry different overheads. A van, a second person at night, and a call-out have a cost. So does a workshop with a lift. Neither is free, and a quote that hides it is not cheaper. It is just less clear.

Warranty length is not the same as warranty cover. Manufacturer warranties cover internal battery failure. They do not cover a battery flattened by a charging fault, which is why the charging system matters more than the badge.

Four questions that move your number

  1. Does this car need AGM or EFB? The answer can change the type, and the price, more than anything else on this page — the difference is explained here.
  2. Which group size and CCA does it take? Case size, terminal layout and hold-down decide what fits; CCA decides whether it copes.
  3. Does the car need the new battery registered? If yes, the quote should say who will do it and whether it is included.
  4. Where is the car parked? A villa driveway, a P3 basement and a mall car park are three different jobs, and access affects time (basement car parks are their own case).

How to compare two quotes properly

Put them side by side and check for the same six lines: specification, labour, call-out, VAT, warranty term, and what happens if the fault turns out to be something else on arrival.

If one quote is much lower, find the missing line before you celebrate it. It is usually the specification, the registration, or the disposal, and you will pay for it either way, just later.

What we will not do

We do not publish a “from” price. A number that only applies to the smallest battery in the range is not a price for your car, and it wastes your call. We ask for the car, the year and where it is parked, and the quote comes back in writing before the van moves, with the specification, the labour, the call-out, the VAT and the warranty term on it.

If the fault turns out not to be the battery, we say so, and you are not paying for a battery you did not need.
